KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT)- Spring marks the beginning of kitten season which is the time of year when cats give birth. Shelters and rescues are overwhelmed with homeless cats and kittens during this time. One mother cat can give birth to multiple litters of kittens during a season, which lasts into the fall.
Furthermore, kittens born at the beginning of kitten season can potentially give birth themselves before the end of the year. Because of this, shelters across the nation take in thousands of litters born to not only strays, but owned pets. Some of these kittens will never find homes and will be euthanized simply because there is not enough space or resources available at their shelter. This is why HSTV asks the community to adopt, spay, and keep their cats.
The Humane Society of the Tennessee Valley (HSTV)and Young Williams Animal Center will host a Kitten Shower on April 8th to collect supplies and donations to be used towards the life-saving care of homeless newborn kittens. Refreshments will be served and adorable kittens will be attending!
